This degree is appropriate for any person who wants to investigate the possibility of going into full-time professional clinical chaplaincy. The courses of this degree are also very practical and appropriate for any person working in full time church ministry.

The following is a list of courses that will be core classes for the 32-Hour M.A. in Pastoral Care (Specialization: Chaplaincy) degree and/or Certification.

Ø                  PCC 500 = The Bible as Resource for Pastoral Care (3 Cr.)

 Ø                  PCC 501/02 = Pastoral Care Issues (6 Cr.) Two-part class (Grief, Bioethics, Pastoral Presence, Cultural & Spiritual Sensitivity, End-of-Life-Care, Cultural Perspectives of Death, Theodicy, etc.)

 Ø                  PCC 503 = Introduction to Professional Chaplaincy (3 Cr.)

 Ø                  PCC 600 = Family Systems Theory (3 Cr.)

 Ø                  PCC 601 = Family Therapy (3 Cr.)

 Ø                  PCC 602 = Adolescent Counseling (3 Cr.)

 Ø                  PCC 603 = Seminar on Clinical Pastoral Education (C.P.E.) (2 Cr.) Note: Any person who wants to work as a professional chaplain will have to seek certified training and earn no less than four Units of CPE. Each Unit equals 500 clinical hours, plus hands-on education with a peer group.

 Ø                  PCC 604 = Doctrine of Grace (3 Cr.)

 Ø                  One Elective (3 Cr.) – You must get prior approval from the professor in order to take the class.
